How to Use Your Sex Toys -- Vibrators

on November 17, 2022

Sex toys are great and all, but they’re not very helpful if you don’t know how to use them. There is no “right” way to get off – but knowing where to start can help you to your finish. Here’s a start on how to experiment with toys alone and with partner(s). Keep in mind, like Goldilocks, you have to keep trying! It may take experimenting with too much or too little sensation to find your perfect toy.

Vibrators

Why?

Vibrations can feel amazing in the clitoris, vagina, or anus. We don’t actually know why exactly vibrations themselves are pleasing. The important thing is that they stimulate sensitive nerves in our erogenous zones, and it feels great. In fact, introducing vibrations to play can completely transform your sexual experience whether solo or with partner(s).

When?

Folks use vibrators alone to masturbate, to mutually masturbate, or in tandem with other play. For instance, you may enjoy using a vibrator in your vagina while during anal intercourse. Or, you could prefer using it solo in order to warm up for sex or just generally solo. The world is your oyster.

How?

Take a look at your vibrator – is it phallic shaped, or is it smaller? If it is “long,” it is likely meant to be used for vaginal penetration. Lube it up, lube the area you are going to play in, hold it at its base, and slowly insert it into your vagina or anus. If you are new, start slow! Vibrations are really stimulating. Play with the settings on your vibrator – as you get used to it, you can play around and see what you like. If your toy is smaller (too small to insert into your vagina holding the base), it’s likely meant for clitoral stimulation. Experiment with your clitoris, labia, and vaginal opening. Figure out what feels good for you, and go from there!

Can I damage my nerves if I use one for too long?

Generally, no, you won’t cause permanent damage. If you feel numbness or pain, stop and let your body settle. It will acclimatize to the vibrations, so you may find yourself using different speeds and/or vibration patterns as you explore. As a rule of thumb, if you are losing sensation, take a beat. The blood will flow back to the area you are stimulating, and when you get going again, you’ll be even more sensitive.
